MEET FREYA ASTRELLA, YOUR VOCAL coach
Singing saved my life. Literally. Multiple times. Which is why I'm so passionate about it, as both an artist and teacher…
I grew up in the most dysfunctional family you can imagine. As a result, I was essentially mute. I had zero social skills. I was terrified.
But then I discovered pop music. And whenever my mum left the house on errands, I would belt at the top of my voice. It was my special secret. And it helped me process my emotions as my family fell apart.
Teenage life was savage. I was relentlessly bullied, to the point where I had to change schools. But the bullying continued. I spent every lunchtime hiding in a toilet cubicle.
During this time, the social services put me in a weekend performing arts school. I became alive. I felt seen and valued. And for the first time, I felt joy.
I remember the day I left school. I literally skipped down the street. But within weeks, my beloved older sister took her own life.
I started college that September, grieving while studying performing arts. And once again, singing became a cathartic release. Singing was the ultimate medicine. And from that point on, I dedicated my whole life to it.
I went from being a strange silent child to a young woman with a first-class Bachelor's and Master’s degree in music. Not to mention my Estill Voice Training.
Then I became a teacher. Because I yearn to share the power of singing with others. To witness and facilitate other singers' journeys is an absolute honour and joy.
I am absolutely on your side. I want to help you discover that magic inside of you. Not just so that you become a stronger singer. But so you become a stronger person.
Your voice is a magical doorway to your true, creative, expressive, emotional self. I believe in this so much that I run a vocal mentorship for young singers who are as passionate as I am.
