Meet Freya Astrella, your local vocal coach

Freya is a bonafide vocal technique expert - and is one of the only teachers in East Sussex to have gained Estill Voice certification (which means she can move all the parts of her vocal tract independently!)

Freya also holds a First Class BA(hons) in Professional Musicianship, VocalTech diploma, and a Master of Music Degree in Vocal Performance.

As a teacher, Freya has taught all ages and abilities at BIMM London, Access To Music, The Academy of Music And Sound, TheatreTrain, Stagecoach Theatre Arts, and The Rock Project.

As a performer, Freya has accumulated hundreds of stage and studio hours. From top-tier functions in iconic London venues to collaborating with charting producers. Freya’s proudest moment was being inducted into the golden pages of the Cirque du Soleil casting database.

Furthermore, Freya was a lead writer for VoiceCouncil.com, which was the biggest online resource for singers. And, she worked in events and music marketing for seven years. She now embarks upon a new career pathway in creative careers outreach, to inspire talented young people to follow their dreams.

e for singers. During this time, she interviewed notable authors, scientists, teachers, and performers, alongside her own thought pieces and book reviews.

In her personal life, Freya has walked the healing path for many years. She deeply understands the power of embracing both the light and the dark in bringing about profound change and wisdom. Not only do these insights inform her own artistry and vocal expression, Freya holds space so her students can courageously and confidently ‘take up sonic space’.

a vocal coach near you that you can trust

“Freya is so incredibly passionate about singing and all things music. She clearly has a gift and so generously shares her infinite font of musical knowledge to those who share an interest. There’s not much, if anything, that she does not know about the mechanics of singing. A master class guaranteed!”

— Louise Channon BCAv, Creative Director + Producer, Brighton Goes Gospel

“As a singer-songwriter, Freya has been instrumental with my vocal strength and even helped develop my promotional skills! She is a great instructor and has helped me overcome barriers to better singing.”

— Sarah, lead singer, torrid; a love affair

“Freya helped me release my voice to feel more confident. The warm-up and practice exercises were so helpful, plus she recommended music and vocalists to listen to. Hearing her sing inspires me! She is a woman who truly understands her craft and knows how to bring out the best in your own individual voice.”

— Katie, Private student, brighton

“Freya ran a workshop at one of my retreats and it was amazing - fun and light but also very powerful. She delivered exactly what we needed, everyone could feel the healing. Freya’s energy is a joy! Her relaxed vibration is awesome. I’ll be working with her much more in the future and I'm excited to see what we can co-create together. She is a joy to work with and her classes are awesome!”

— Gibby, the Soul Sanctuary

“Freya came to run a session for our church singers and was brilliant. She ran a bespoke session which was co-designed with the singers' personal objectives in mind, and she chose activities which allowed everyone to meet their objectives. She responded and adapted the session according to the needs of the group and finished with an informative Q&A session. We were quite a large, diverse group with a wide range of singing styles and experience between us, and Freya's delivery ensured that there was a benefit for all.”

— Beka, Holland Road Baptist Church, Brighton

“I was a confirmed, lifelong, non-singer when I first went to Freya for singing lessons. But even during the first lesson Freya showed me this wasn't the case. And after my second lesson I recorded myself singing and posted it on social media. There's still loads to learn, but I'm in safe hands.”

— BILL, private student, eastbourne

“As a singing teacher myself, having lessons with Freya has been wonderful. Her knowledge of the voice is outstanding and her delivery is very non-judgemental. Freya's lessons are a safe space for you to explore vocal sounds, make mistakes, and try new repertoire.”

— SALLY, PRIVATE STUDENT, Seaford

“Thank you so much for that session, you made it very easy for me to relax and ‘just do it’. I don’t think it’s quite sunk in how much of a momentous moment that was for me lol - defo want to do it again!”

— Megan, private student, eastbourne

“Having a singing lesson with Freya was the best decision I’ve made in a long time. I’m trying to work on my confidence, and this seemed a good place to start. Freya was warm and welcoming and genuinely excited to be teaching. I left walking on air and can’t wait to go again, I’m massively grateful.”

— James, PRIVATE STUDENT, Eastbourne

"Freya is a lovely person and highly skilled vocal coach. Her passion is evident from the depth of knowledge that is transferred in every lesson. The sessions go far beyond standard techniques and delve into anatomy and psychology. I cannot recommend Freya highly enough - I was made to feel comfortable and increasingly confident in every session.
